Outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Botswana and Permanent Representative to SADC bids farewell, hails strong cooperation

Gaborone, Botswana: The Outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the Republic of Botswana and Permanent Representative to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Her Excellency Dr. Beatriz Antónia Manuel Morais, has commended the strong and fruitful cooperation between the Republic of Angola and SADC, noting the steady growth of mutual relations since the establishment of the regional organisation.

Her Excellency made these remarks on 18 December 2025 during a courtesy visit to the SADC Executive Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi, at the SADC Secretariat, where she formally bid farewell following the conclusion of her tour of duty in Botswana. Ambassador Dr. Morais has served in Botswana since June 2018, representing Angola to both the host country, Botswana and SADC.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Morais expressed her appreciation for the cooperation and support extended to her and the Government of the Republic of Angola by the SADC Secretariat throughout her tenure. She reaffirmed Angola’s strong commitment to SADC, highlighting the country’s role as a Founding Member State and its continued support for SADC programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing regional integration, coordination and cooperation.

She further underscored the importance Angola attaches to SADC as a key platform for promoting regional development, peace and economic integration, noting that her Government remains fully committed to the effective implementation of the SADC agenda.

In his remarks, the SADC Executive Secretary expressed sincere gratitude to the Ambassador for her valuable contributions to the work of SADC and for fostering strong relations between the Secretariat and the Republic of Angola during her tenure. He particularly acknowledged the pivotal role she played during the period when Angola chaired SADC, noting that her leadership and coordination through the Angolan Embassy in Botswana greatly facilitated the smooth execution of regional processes and activities.

H.E. Magosi also conveyed his appreciation to His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, for appointing a distinguished and capable diplomat whose service significantly strengthened cooperation with SADC. He reaffirmed the Secretariat’s continued commitment to working closely with the Republic of Angola in advancing diplomatic relations, mutual cooperation and the broader objectives of regional integration.

The Executive Secretary concluded by wishing Ambassador Dr. Morais success in her future endeavours, acknowledging her distinguished service and contributions.
